Provides prescribed medical treatment
and personal care services to ill, injured, convalescent, and disabled
persons in the hospitals by performing the following duties. The
ability to comprehend and follow routine written or verbal instruction
or directions. Adheres to Standard Precautions policy and procedure.
Performs other duties as requested by supervisor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Obtains and records patient's vital signs and weight. Assists
physician with patient examination as needed. Reviews physician's
orders, lab requests, or follow-up needs with patient. Documents
services performed for billing purposes. Dresses wounds and gives
enemas, douches, alcohol rubs, and massages. Applies compresses, ice
bags, and warming devices. Observes patients and reports adverse
reactions to medication or treatment to medical personnel in charge.
Administers specified medication, orally, subcutaneous, intramuscularly
injection, or intravenous. Notes time and amount on patients' charts as
per policy and procedure. Assembles and uses such equipment as
catheters, tracheotomy tubes, and oxygen supplies. Collects samples,
such as urine, blood, and sputum, from patients for testing. Prepares
or examines food trays for prescribed diet and feeds patients. Records
food and fluid intake and output. Rotates among various clinical
services of the hospital. Bathes, dresses, and assists patients in
walking and turning. Cleans rooms, makes beds, and answers patients'
calls. Maintains supplies, including stocking and ordering new supplies
and disposing of expired or damaged supplies. Provides the appropriate
care for the neonate, pediatric, adolescent, and the geriatric patient
and demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development
over the life span. Responsible for reporting drug reactions on the
appropriate form. Responsible for reporting faulty equipment to the
appropriate supervisor. Assess patient and report to RN supervisor or
physician as appropriate. Update plan of care with RN’s review and
assistance. Any other job duty as allowed by licensure. Will be
preceptor to new hires as requested.
Experience
A minimum of one-year experience in hospital setting preferred.
Special skills
Ability to communicate effectively and ability to work compatibly as a team member with physicians and other staff members.
License required
Current Texas LVN license, BLS, ACLS, PAL preferred.
