Medina Healthcare System Announces 2017 Dates for Free Childbirth Classes
Medina Healthcare System is offering free classes to expectant parents beginning in 2017.  The next class is scheduled for June 10, 2017.  The classes are held in the hospital Board Room beginning at 9:00 a.m.  Topics covered in the class include hospital preparation, labor, breathing techniques, the roles of the labor coach, pain management, postpartum recovery, breastfeeding and newborn infant care.  The information is helpful to anyone expecting a child, whether it is the first child or third child in the family.
Classes are open to all expectant parents.   Attendance is not restricted to Medina Healthcare System patients or patients who plan to deliver at Medina Regional Hospital.  “We want to offer this additional service to help prepare women and family members for the challenges of birth, labor, delivery and the care of the newborn,” says June McCaleb, RN, BSN, Labor & Delivery.
June McCaleb, RN, BSN, will teach the bi-monthly Saturday classes.  She brings over 25 years of nursing experience to the system, with more than 11 years of experience in labor, delivery, postpartum and newborn nursery patient care.  She began her career as an LVN and received her RN and Bachelor of Science in Nursing from UT Health Science Center of San Antonio in 2002.  She is also a Certified Lactation Consultant.
The remaining class dates for 2017:  June 10, August 12, October 14 and December 9.  To sign up for the classes, please call (830) 426-7958.  Please plan to attend a class at least 2 to 3 months before your due date.
