Medina Healthcare Board Receives 2016 Star Trustees Award
AUSTIN (July 29, 2016) – The Medina County Hospital District Board of Directors, which includes members Bill Bain; Steve Hackebeil; Tim Hardt; Tony Johnson; Zachary Windrow, M.D.; Judy Winkler; and Carlton Young, has been named the recipient of Texas Healthcare Trustees’ 2016 Star Trustee Award. The award was presented July 29 during THT’s 2016 Healthcare Governance Conference in San Antonio.

Established in 2012, the Star Trustee Award recognizes an outstanding trustee, committee or board that effectively advocates for its hospital or health care system and the community at large.

“These seven individuals have committed time, talent and a lot of heart to this health care system,” said Janice Simons, FACHE, CEO of Medina Healthcare System. “There is no way to separate this board and nominate just one member; each brings special contributions that make this team exemplary.”

The board led a financially struggling health care system through a five-year journey to a healthy, financially sound organization. Thanks to the board’s leadership, today the Medina Healthcare System is a major employer in the region, with 230 staff members. The 25-bed Medina Regional Hospital now stands as a model for other rural health care facilities. In the past five years, the hospital has received numerous awards, including the 2014 Business of the Year Award, the Unsung Hero Award, and the National Rural Health Association’s Top 20 Critical Access Hospital Best Practice in Quality Award.
